Survey by the AACE National Ambulance Violence Prevention and Reduction Hub: We need your feedback!

Dear Member,

Thank you to those who filled out the last survey regarding what issues you would like GMB to focus on over the next year. We have looked through the local results and we will be setting up campaigns over next few weeks and months.

If any of you wish to print the flyer and place it on your station or office noticeboard it would be greatly appreciated.

Survey by the AACE National Ambulance Violence Prevention and Reduction Hub: We need your feedback!

All operational ambulance staff are being encouraged to share their views, opinions and experiences of managing distress, aggression and violence whilst carrying out their day-to-day duties, to help shape a new national training programme designed to help staff safely manage conflict.

The survey is accessible here (https://maybo-research.com/aace-staff-survey) and takes between just ten and fifteen minutes to complete, while staff can also remain anonymous if they don’t wish to give their names.

The training programme is being developed by the Association of Ambulance Chief Executives (AACE) alongside independent conflict management specialists Maybo, who for 25 years have helped organisations reduce risks surrounding behaviours of concern and workplace violence through the design and delivery of engaging, outcome-focused training.

The bespoke course will provide a suite of skills and strategies that can be used by staff during challenging situations to ensure that essential treatment can be delivered while positive action can be taken simultaneously to ensure the risks to patients and staff is minimized, or even prevented.

Adam Hopper, AACE National Ambulance Violence Prevention and Reduction Operational Lead, says:

“We can only make this course bespoke, relevant and ensure that it meets your needs if we fully understand the situations you face and the experiences you have, so we would be delighted if you could spare some valuable time to help us do this.

“The survey will ask you to identify your job role and trust you work in – which is purely so that we can make the training programme bespoke to trends and patterns in individual trusts, there is no requirement for any other information to ensure that you remain anonymous.

Focus groups – register now!

There will also be a series of focus groups held to gather further information and staff experiences so if you would like to contribute to one of these, please register your interest here (VPR Focus Groups – aace.org.uk) (any information provided will not be used for any purpose other than contacting you about the focus groups).

The results of this national survey and how this is then used to shape and develop the training programme will eventually be shared via the AACE website at www.aace.org.uk.
