GMB MEMBERS HAVE VOTED YES-YES FOR STRIKE ACTION & ACTION SHORT OF A STRIKE
GMB members working in the NHS say enough is enough. GMB Members voted 4 to 1 (78%) in favour of strike action and by 91% in favour of action short of a strike.
Strike action will begin on Monday 13th October and this will be followed by four days of action short of a strike.

NHS and AMBULANCE STRIKE ACTION
On Monday 13th October, GMB members be on strike action from 7am to 11am. That means you stop work and join a picket line between the hours of 7am – 11am only.
If you are at work on Monday 13th October, we want you to come out and join the picket lines and stand in solidarity with union members taking action. If your scheduled shift on Monday 13th October is later can you consider turning up early or later, to join union members on a picket line? Help get the message out to all NHS staff. NHS pay is being attacked, let’s stand together and fight back.
Please note 4 hour strike is the same across the NHS but the Action Short of Strike varies in the Ambulance Service and the rest of the NHS. See full details below.
NHS ACTION SHORT OF STRIKE
Once Monday’s strike action concludes at 11am, GMB is asking all members to take part in Action short of strike (ASOS) from Tuesday 14th October. GMB ask all members to ‘only’ work their proper contractual hours and take their breaks, for four days which include the dates 14, 15, 16 & 17th October.
In the NHS, staff often work beyond their contracted hours and stay back working unpaid hours to help get things done, often staff work through their breaks. We are asking members not to do this for four days.
We are asking members to ‘only’ work their contracted hours and take their breaks from 00.01 hours on Tuesday 14th October, Wednesday 15th October, Thursday 16th October and 23.59 hours on Friday 17th October.
5 days of action across the NHS are from Monday 13th October – Friday 17th October.
AMBULANCE ACTION SHORT OF STRIKE
Once Monday’s strike action concludes at 11am. The GMB is asking all members to take part in Action short of strike (ASOS) from Tuesday 14th October.
GMB is asking all members in the Ambulance Service to take part in action short of as strike. This will consist of a ban on all planned (voluntary) overtime in the ambulance Service.
Contractual overtime is already built into shift patterns. For example if you have already taken a call and your shift would have finished, extended overtime is the norm and this will still need to continue.
GMB is asking all members in the ambulance service not to do any planned (voluntary) overtime for four days which include the dates 14, 15, 16 & 17th October. So when you are asked to cover a shift, or come in on your day off, or take on additional overtime which is voluntary or is planned, the GMB is asking you not to do this.
We are asking members in the ambulance service to adhere to an overtime ban from 00.01 hours on Tuesday 14th October, Wednesday 15th October, Thursday 16th October and 23.59 hours on Friday 17th October.
5 days of action across the NHS are from Monday 13th October – Friday 17th October.
